the president can do this to individual citizens, yet the Supreme Court says he can’t stop corporations from financing election campaigns (which could include foreign countries). To do that we need a constitutional amendment. Ok, it’s time for a constitutional amendment then.

Thanks Obama, I think you may have just won the election for Ron Paul.

Posted by: Mike | December 31, 2011, 6:26 pm 6:26 pm

Obama needs to be impeached and tried for treason…along with any and all representatives who signed this bill. What part of due process of law do you not understand? The constitution applies TO ALL PEOPLE IN THE USA, CITIZEN OR NOT!! A direct violation of the bill of rights. VOTE THEM OUT!! Ron Paul is the only candidate who would have stopped this and will get it repealed. Ron Paul is the ONLY one that can be trusted to follow the constitution, because he always has.

Holy God. America has passed it’s own death sentence.

Posted by: Dan Millionaire | December 31, 2011, 6:30 pm 6:30 pm

I really don’t see how this could be constitutional.

Posted by: lexingtonlady | December 31, 2011, 6:32 pm 6:32 pm

This is horrible!! We need Obama OUT!

Why aren’t ALL the Republican candidates talking about this!

They should ALL be condemning this legislation! They have all this airtime, interviews, commercials etc… the candidates should be aggressively attacking the NDAA and promising they will do everything in their power to dismantle this!

Posted by: Get Checked | December 31, 2011, 6:33 pm 6:33 pm

I have reservations about voting Obama.

I have no reservations about voting Ron Paul who actually believes in the Constitution instead of being a fake “scholar”.

Obama is about as pro constitution as Kim Jung Un.

Isn’t this the same guy that said one of the first things he was going to do was close GT MO??
Just say “NO to BO”

Posted by: realsickofit | December 31, 2011, 6:36 pm 6:36 pm

I hope all Democrats who voted for hope and change will read about this and remember. And to those on the Republican side remember that you have the House Majority and voted in favor of it, too. Ron Paul was the only presidential candidate who spoke against it and has been speaking against it from the beginning.

Posted by: Gerald | December 31, 2011, 6:37 pm 6:37 pm

Anyone have an Idea why ABC has not questioned all the candidates on this?
Yes Ron Paul is against this, but why no questions to the candidates. I can really
only believe that while reporting this, that it goes away like most news stories
and what a better time than New Years Eve to play a story when most people
are not paying attention. This is something that truly hurts the President and
the less coverage the better.

When is America going to finally wake up and realize that the two paradigm is a set up and is used on purpose to divide and conquer the American people while the real agenda is pushed along by both parties regardless of affiliation. I say if the republicans hate him, the demacrats hate him, the mainstream media hates him and the corporations hate him then he must be good for us. Ron Paul must be elected or our way of life is going to dramatically change in the near future.

Posted by: Mark | December 31, 2011, 6:38 pm 6:38 pm

For those saying the bill exempts american suspects from indefinite detainment w/out charge – you. Are wrong – the wording is, “citizens are exempt from this requirement” referring to military’s requirement to detain suspects. All this means is, by law, the military is not required to detain citizens. This means, by simple logic, american citizens may and will be detained by military if the military decides it is in their interests…a sad day for us all. Please vote Ron Paul. Even if you disagree with every other thing he says, there may not be much left to fight about if we don’t save our individual liberty.

Posted by: arguablybetter | December 31, 2011, 6:38 pm 6:38 pm

Forget tyranny – how about communism. That’s what Obama has led this country to.

Posted by: irishrose | December 31, 2011, 6:38 pm 6:38 pm

This is exactly why we need to elect Ron Paul. Even if you disagree with him on some things, Ron Paul is the ONLY candidate who opposes this. He is also the only candidate who opposes strip searches of Jewish grandmothers by the TSA. If you want to continue down this path then re-elect Obama or elect Romney or Newt and nothing will change. But if you want to end this tyranny and you want to support freedom and liberty and the Constitution, elect Ron Paul!

Obama is working on his next big bill…it makes being white and rich a crime…

What next? President Obama declaring Martial law and cancelling elections?

We, the citizens of the United States of America, are 100% free: We are free to do what we are told. We are free to conform to what is expected of us. We are free to be good Capitalists, buying up every piece of crap the Chinese can throw at us. We are free to soak up the limitless propaganda telling us how free we are, and of course we are free to angrily tell foreigners how gloriously free we are. Otherwise, we are completely free to join the 7+ MILLION of our fellow citizens who are currently in prison, on probation or on parole. Luckily for us all, that last “freedom” just got much easier for all of us to enjoy.

How can people be stupid enough not to realize this bill was passed by a Republican majority House and by a bi-partisan vote in the Senate, long before it went to the President.

Posted by: Dan | December 31, 2011, 6:44 pm 6:44 pm

Your ‘reservations’ crack is not amusing Obama.

I defy anyone to tell me a candidate, republican or democrat, besides Ron Paul that actually wouldn’t sign a bill like this…

That’s why ABCnews, I don’t care if you run 200 hit pieces of Ron Paul from now until election day, he has my unwavering support.

Posted by: RoboBobo | December 31, 2011, 6:45 pm 6:45 pm

First of all we need to find out who or whose PARTY presented this law, before going on trying to crucify someone without knowing the root or origin of this law.

Please, don’t me so eager to jump in any conclusion. And way some of you said the “Americans are doomed!?” To my knowledge not all Americans are terrorist! They are worker hard, citizens. This law is only for those that proved to be doing act of terrorism against our country. Go back and read it again, please.

Posted by: Gigi | December 31, 2011, 6:47 pm 6:47 pm

This signing of NDAA by Obama hammers the nail in the coffin.

Habeas Corpus is now officially dead in the USA.

America is under Martial Law Rule for 2012 and beyond…

Posted by: JamesG | December 31, 2011, 6:48 pm 6:48 pm

Amazing!! This is a travesty on ALL citizens of America.” Reservations to sign?” What total crap. Don’t sign a bill that STEALS American freedom of due process. Who stood up against this in congress???????
With my text here you could declare me a terrorist and associate me to who ever YOU WANT at your whim and I HAVE no rights??? No legal basis to prove anything? Haul me off somewhere….forever??

Posted by: Patrick | December 31, 2011, 6:49 pm 6:49 pm

If the terrorist attacked us on 911 (see Rudolph Giuliani & others) because we are prosperous and free…well we don’t have to worry about terrorism anymore, because we certainly are not prosperous and now we are not free either!

“The president defended his action, writing that he signed the act, “chiefly because it authorizes funding for the defense of the United States . . .”

In other words, the Republicans in the House stuck this nonsense in the bill.

So……basically what this article says, Vote for Ron Paul. Because he is the only guy that would veto this bill into oblivion.

THESE ARE THINGS THAT AMERICANS CARE ABOUT ABC!!! GOOD JOB ON REPORTING THIS, NOW don”T SWEEP IT UNDER THE CARPET.

REALLY CONVENIENT THAT HE WAITED TILL 6PM on NEW YEARS EVE TO PASS THIS BILL, WHEN EVERYONE WILL BE OUT GETTING TOO DRUNK TO REALIZE WHAT HE DID WHILE THEY WERE TRYING TO ENJOY THEIR NIGHT

HAPPY NEW YEAR, GIVE US YOUR FREEDOM.

PEOPLE SHOULD OWN ROCKET LAUNCHERS TO TAKE OUT THE DRONES THAT FLY OVER THEIR HOMES!

As a Repub, I can’t stand the GOP’s thirst for war. Its so easy to send someone else’s son, daughter, brother, sister to go fight and possibly die and I find their act despicable.

I see others on this forum commenting about Ron Paul. I may just have to vote for him after I do more research. He sounds incorruptible but the media sure attacks him. I’m starting to wonder why and may have stumbled across my own answer. Tell me more about Ron Paul…

We’re already knee-deep in tyranny people. It’s time to wake up and start demanding our liberties back.

To all of you that are saying “a republican controlled senate passed this’ listen up! THE MEDIA IS NOT TELLING YOU THAT THIS BILL WAS AN EXECUTIVE ORDER BY OBAMA HIMSELF. OBAMA ORDERED ITS PASSAGE AND THE DEM LEVIN AND THE REP MCCAIN PUSHED IT THROUGH AS A BIPARTISAN EFFORT! THEIR IS NO DIVISION DEMOCRAT OR REPUBLICAN! NONE OF THEM WORK FOR YOU DO YOU GET IT NOW????????????????

For the future of our Country, would everyone who is disturbed by this latest federal affront please do a little research, of their own, about who Ron Paul actually is and what the guy wants to accomplish? Check out pedia or Ron Paul’s campaign site (ronpaul2012.com). The guy has faithfully kept his word to his constituents for 30 YEARS! He is as honest and loyal as they come. He has served our Country. Delivered babies. Helped the impoverished with his own time and money. The media calls THIS crazy?!?!
